Patrol/Information/Policies/Bump
From SPVSP
The act of waiting at the top of the hill in order to ensure a patroller is available to response to an emergency is called standing bump. Bumps are done inside of bump shacks at the top of the Pacific Crest and the Wild Side chairlifts.
SPVSP policy is that two patrollers are to be assigned to the bump at all times. The only time there should be less than two patrollers on bump is when one or both of them have left the bump to respond to an emergency. It is the Hill Captain's responsibility to assign patrollers to shifts on the bump. Each bump is one hour long, and typically patrollers are required to do two hours of bump per shift of patrolling.
If there are less than two patrollers on bump, the next patroller up the chairlift is required to remain stationed at the top of the hill until another patroller arrives. At that point the first patroller is free to ski down, while the second patroller must wait for a third patroller to arrive.
